#30 One Sleepless Night

On this night, I was traveling to Arkansas to pick up a modified chassis from Larry Shaw Racecars in Batesville. I had so much adrenaline I could not calm down enough for my body to sleep. Really, I just didn't want to miss a thing. I was persistent on making sure I saw the scenery because I was told how awesome it would be. The surroundings were beautiful. I will never forget the hillside.
Everything was going as planned; the truck was in front of my wife and me. The truck was pulling a trailer that we were going to bring the chassis back to town on. The trailer was partially enclosed; it had an area where an air compressor was welded onto the back of the enclosure. Inside the trailer we had all of our tools that we take to the races. We didn’t expect to need them but we didn’t have time to empty the trailer out since it was a work day.
After getting into Missouri a ways, the land became full of hills. The speed limit also increased to seventy miles per hour which seemed crazy because we were not familiar with the road. Suddenly, we ran over a large object in the road and saw nothing but sparks from ahead. I immediately picked up my phone and called my brother in law that was driving the truck. We all pulled over. After getting out lights and plugging them into the generator in the truck, we saw that the fender tore off of the trailer partially that caused the tire to come off of the rim. The fender was still partially attached so we had to get the grinder out to get it off the rest of the way. While I was getting the fender off, the others were putting the spare tire on so we could continue our journey.
We made it to Batesville by 8:30 a.m. and hit the road again by 9:30. Finally, thirty six hours later, I was home with our new chassis and ready to sleep.

My Five Year Plan #41
In five years I would like to be done with school and have my Associates degree. Then I would like to get hired on with an established company. The company would have great benefits and a good vacation plan. I would like to be in charge of a crew of HAVAC/R, and maybe even own my own company. I will own my own company when I get enough experience and build up clientele. I would have a lot of employees that are hard workers. My wife would be done with her master’s degree. Her masters would be in business administration, she will be a principal at a school in Dist 150, or she will have tenure.
My family will be going good and our kids well be getting ready to start school. My wife and I will have two kids, one boy and a girl. They are starting to race go carts. (If their mom well let them.) We will have two dogs and two cats. They are well trained and playful.
The racing team is doing well and on its way to win an UMP championship. The team consists of all of my family. We will go racing every Saturday night; my little brother will be racing the open wheel modified. Sunday the kids will be racing their go cart.
We will have our school loans paid off, and buying our dream house. It will be out in the country. The land will have a pond and a place for us to ride our four wheelers. It will have a lot of wildlife to look at and hunt. That is where I see my life in five years. my little brother well be racing the open wheel modified

My Morning Commute (Topic #40)

It’s 6 a.m. I just woke up fifteen minutes ago and am almost ready to leave for work. I grabbed my keys and pushed the button to start the car outside in the bitter cold. I heard the deep rowdy rumble of the motor while the car was warming up. About ten minutes later, I was ready to leave and walked outside to see my pride and joy. It was tangerine orange, freshly bathed, with shiny black tires. It had two thick pure white stripes running down the top of the car. The body lines were smooth and sleek like glass. The rims were eighteen inches of polished white gold. I pushed the unlock button so I could get inside.
Once inside, I sat down in my custom fitted seat. It is so welcoming to sit in this heated white soft leather surface. I put the key in the ignition and the voice-activated prompt came on. It said, “Welcome Nick.” I am able to tell it my destination and it gives me directions there without pushing even one button. I snap my safety belt into place and am ready to go. Before I am ready to pull out of the drive, I place my iphone on its deck so it can play my favorite playlist through the 900 watt stereo system while I drive to work.
Driving down the road, I go over a bump, but I don’t feel a thing. I have air ride shocks on this car and they make the smoothest ride around. My coffee barely even vibrates when I pass this bump. There is an abundance of power under the hood. When you open the hood there is so much chrome, you have to give your eyes a chance to adjust it is so bright. There are stainless steel braided hoses feeding this eight hundred horsepower motor oil. It is a sight to see. My GPS just told me destination on left; I guess it is time to go to work.
